The not-so-much baking post

First off, I must apologise to those readers who were expecting a proper baking post. I dont think this really counts, its more like decorating!
Anyway, I am not so pleased with this cake as I perhaps should be, but as my Mum thinks it is excellent, I shall share it with you anyway! It looks like what it is meant to be, its just.. well its rather chubby!
Wihtout further deliberation, I will show you...
The Rather Plump Dalek Cake!!
It is my friend Sam's 18th birthday today, and he is absolutely mad about Doctor Who. I got the idea and instructions from here. It is not very detailed in how you do it, I didnt really need the instructions, I just used the picture really!
I also cheated and bought the swiss roll cake, so I am afraid it really isnt a baking post, apart from the fact I made the butter icing!
Swiss Rolls - I used two large ones, but there is a lot left over
100g of Butter
200g Icing Sugar
2 table spoons of cocoa (I used drinking chocolate and then had to add in blue and red food colouring because it wasnt brown enough)
Assorted Sweets

With the help of my sister, I began cutting the swiss rolls to make the basic shape. After choosing the height, I used the second swiss roll and cut it diagonally and lined it up against the main base.

Cream the butter until soft
And add in the icing sugar, a bit at a time.
Add in the two spoons of cocoa powder. (Ours turned a beigey sort of colour so we had to experiment with food colouring before if got a bit darker.
Cover the cake in the icing, we had to mostly use our fingers because it was so sticky!
Now its beginning to take shape, and time for the fun part!!
At this point, we thought it looked like an alien that little kids draw!! So my sister added a mouth, just for fun. It looks so funny from this view :P
We used white chocolate buttons for the sides and also little toffee balls and marked grooves in between. The lines around the head could have been licorice, but Sam doesnt like that so we used strawberry laces. The eyes (?) are from a packet of dolly mix and the weapons are made from a mikado stick. For the plunger, I added a sugary sweet.
And thats that! Sorry its not much of a baking post, but I hope you enjoyed it anyway!
See you soon,
